Sage Payment Solutions Review

Sage Payment Solutions Review

Sage Payment Solutions is one of the largest companies in the industry of credit card processors. It was established in 1989 and is based out of McLean, Virginia. The list of services provided by them is quite long including mobile payments so you have a lot of option to choose from.

Apparently large companies have many complaints filed against them and same goes with Sage Payment Solutions; their profile on BBB shows a large number of complaints.

To the downside, they charge merchants with high fee upon cancellation of the account. So if you are planning to sign up with Sage Payment Solutions, I recommend you to ask their sales rep for dropping the charges. Otherwise there are many other good providers in the business who are not charging their clients with any kind of cancellation fee, so you can opt for them.

Don’t forget to go through my credit card processor comparison chart; it will really help you in exploring the facts about many of the processors before you can make a final decision.

For more information you can see the subsections below.

As you already know that I am a big fan of social media networks, so obviously, I was glad to find that Sage Payment Solutions does acknowledge the place this social media networking holds in the present (digital) times. They are among those few processors who provide an online platform for the ease of their clients. They not only have active LinkedIn, and Twitter accounts and Facebook fan page but also own a Youtube account, where you can easily socialize with them and voice your opinion.

I have rated them 3.5 out of 5 due to their early termination charges.

Negative Reviews/Complaints:
There are a decent amount of negative reviews and complaints spread across the web. The best way to seek them out would be to do a search for Sage Payment Solutions complaints, Sage Payment Solutions reviews, Sage Payment Solutions scam, etc…

Common Complaints:

The complaints filed against them vary widely that made it difficult for me to establish any pattern; still I am discussing some of the important things that you should know about them.

  • High cancellation fee: Another downside to Sage Payment Solutions is their charge for an early termination of the contract. According to my knowledge they work on some type of liquidated damages kind of cancellation fee, where merchants are charged a specific amount that is multiplied by the number of months left in their contract. Actually this clause in the agreements is a sneaky way to charge merchants with excessive cancellation fees. So, the charges may vary accordingly.
  • PCI compliance fee:  No doubt PCI compliance is essential for those who intend to accept credit card for the business but processors charging for such compliance are not being reasonable at all. Many of the merchants are complaining about being charged with PCI compliance fee of $100.00 per annum, and that of course adds to the downside of Sage Payment Solutions.
  • Poor customer service:  Their customer service section appears to be in a bad position, as some merchants have issues about Sage’s customer support.

Verifiable Testimonials/References:
You can find a few success stories and testimonials on the Sage website. Good stuff Sage! Be sure to ask them for references as well. Specifically for companies that are in your same industry.

No on-site security features (i.e. McAfee, Security Metrics etc…).

Customer Service:
I tried to contact their sales and support on two separate occasions via email, and once during a live chat session. I didn’t get a response to either email, and I ended up closing the chat session after waiting about 10 minutes. I’ve also read some complaints about Sage’s customer service/support so I don’t believe it’s the best.

Contract Duration:
3-years (auto-renewing).

Cancellation Fee
I wasn’t able to get an exact amount for the Sage early termination fee, but noticed varying amounts based on the complaints that I read. I’m assuming that they have some sort of Liquidated Damages type contract, which can be especially expensive to the merchant.

Interchange-Plus Pricing:
Interchange-plus is offered by Sage Payment Solutions. Make sure you ask for it though. Most processors don’t offer it up unless it’s asked for.

Seasonal Downtime:
Seasonal downtime is also offered by Sage.

Product/Service Offering:
Retail (Credit/Debit), Online/e-Commerce Payments, ACH, Mobile, Gift & Loyalty, Cash Advance, Recurring Billing, Virtual Terminal.
