1st American Card Service Review

1st American Card Service Review

Author

Overview:

1st American Card Service, established in 1985, is a payment processing company that is based out of Murrieta, California.

First I am giving you a brief overview while for the rest of the other good stuff that you should be aware of you can see look into sections below.

I found 46 complaints filed against them on their profile on the BBB while I could hardly find any negative reviews floating across the web.

Currently they are offering services through mail order which is all good but since they are not operating through any office so, it would be more adequate if they provide more information about their company such as name of the owner, profile of the people behind this company etc. Adding this kind of the information to their profile will make things more trustworthy.

In fact they can also provide us with some public channels like Twitter account or a Facebook profile where we can connect with them online.

Moreover, they can spend some time and resources for the education of merchants through a blog or any other educational resources. After all, educating merchants is beneficial not only for the merchants but also make processes smoother for the company and over and above this; it can be valuable asset for their company’s repo.

Now, another important thing to consider is that 1st American Card Service is a reseller of iPayment services. According to my info 1st American Card Service doesn’t charge any cancellation fee but if you look at iPayment contract things quite contradictory. They lock you in a 3-year contract and they do charge quite a high amount for cancellation ($350). Bottom line is that there is pretty much chance that you don’t have to pay any cancellation fee if you go with 1st American Card Service  but before you sign the dotted line carefully read all terms and conditions and have a confirmation in writing in this regard.

Sadly, they have not provided any testimonials or happy clients stories on their website. They should really put some nice testimonials to boost up their scores.

For now I am scoring 1st American Card Service 3.5 out of 5.

Date Established:
1986.

Location:
Murrieta, California.

Domain Name(s):

  • www.1stamericancardservice.com.
  • www.iacceptcreditcards.com.
  • www.1stworldcardservice.com.

Parent/Partner Company:
The Visa ISO list places Avalon America Corporation as the parent company of 1st American Card Service.

Type:
Registered ISO/MSP.

Acquiring Bank(s) (Acquirer):
Westmerica Bancorporation and Wells Fargo (through iPayment).

Payment Processor(s):
Contrary to what the rep from 1st American Card Service stated, if you look at their contract you will find that they are not direct processor but process their transactions through another company, iPayment.

In case your credit card transactions are being processed by iPayment then keep that in mind here terms can be entirely different as you would be working with a different organization. So, you should be well aware of not only the names of the companies involved in the processing of your merchant account but also their position and reputation in the market, and their working terms.

Moreover, what’s worth knowing above all is that iPayment has the authority to shut your account down in case of charge –backs or suspicious charges or anything that raises a red flag and to do so they don’t need any approval from 1st American Card Service. As a matter of fact iPayment possess it’s very own risk/underwriting department which allows them to have some power over your account.

Payment Gateway(s):
I was told that they can set you up with pretty much any gateway, but they prefer Authorize.Net or eProcessing Network.

Trust Symbols:
The 1st American Card Service BBB profile has an “A+” rating as of this review, with 46 complaints in the last 36-months. They’re also part of the BBB’s TrustLink program.

Negative Reviews/Complaints:
You’ll find an average amount of complaints on the usual sites like RipOffReportComplaints Board and MeasuredUp. Not too out of control though.

Common Complaints:
I couldn’t find enough complaints to really nail down anything in particular, so I’m going to leave this part open for now.

Verifiable Testimonials/References:
They don’t have any testimonial section on their website which always adds to the downside. I would love to see some nice testimonials or case studies that I can use as reference to make verification.

Security/Privacy:

Their website is protected by Verisign, but for one of their online app, I can’t see any proper security for data sent by that particular app.

Contract Duration:
I was told that there is no long-term contract, but as always, be sure to clarify that on your merchant agreement/contract.

Cancellation Fee:
Same thing applies here. They said there is no early termination fee, and as long as you verify that with them, then you should be good.

Interchange-Plus Pricing:
Interchange-plus is offered by 1st American Card Service, but unless you ask for it specifically, you may not be setup with it. Be sure to ask.

Seasonal Downtime:
Seasonal downtime is also offered by 1st American Card Service.

Product/Service Offering:
Retail (Credit/Debit), Online/e-Commerce Payments, Virtual Terminal, Mail Order/Telephone Order (MOTO), Wireless, Quickbooks Integration, Check Processing, Yahoo Stores.

Product/Service Specialty:
None.

  1. This has to be the worst company I have ever dealt with. Horrible customer service the operator always says your contact person will call you back and never does. They promise you the world and its nothing but problems. Poorly managed!!!! Save your money and go with someone else!
